Domestic Nuclear Facility Experience at Y-12 National Security Complex

Y-12 National Security Complex (Y-12), in support of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration’s Safeguards Human Capital Development Program, will hold a one week Domestic Nuclear Facility Experience at Y-12 (DFNE-Q). Y-12 has a number of facilities that handle, process, or store nuclear material. These facilities utilize measures relevant to international nuclear safeguards including: containment and surveillance, non-destructive assay sampling and analysis, and nuclear material accountancy.

Introductory Course on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Safeguards (June 22nd - June 26th, 2020)

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, in support of the U.S. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration’s Office of International Nuclear Safeguards, is hosting a one-week, virtual introductory course on nuclear nonproliferation and international safeguards. The course is tuition free and will be held on June 22-26, 2020. Given the challenges of virtual instruction, each day will last approximately three hours, running from 8am-11am PST.

Fundamentals of Non-Destructive Assay for International Safeguards

Description: This course is an introduction to non-destructive assay (NDA) measurement techniques that may be used for nuclear material accountancy by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or within a State’s System of Accounting and Control (SSAC). The course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of gamma-ray detection and provide an introduction to neutron detection. The course will explore the application of NDA measurements techniques typically used for international safeguards.
